This thesis examines some clinical and epidemiological aspects of seborrheic dermatitis and the importance of vitamin D for its development. The aim of the study is to investigate some pathogenic factors, skin comorbidity and serum vitamin D levels in patients with seborrheic dermatitis. The effect of local cholecalciferol and vitamin D supplementation on the course of seborrheic dermatitis has been considered as well. Study of the vitamin D status showed high prevalence of vitamin D deficiency and insufficiency in patients with seborrheic dermatitis. There is no statistically significant correlation of serum 25 (OH) vitamin D and age, sex, season, body mass index and phototype of the studied individuals. On the other hand there was correlation between the level of serum vitamin D and severity of the disease and number of exacerbations per year. Nevertheless the duration of the skin disease could not be predictor for the level of 25 (OH) vitamin D of the patients. It may be presumed that low serum vitamin D may be one of the reasons for more severe and more frequent exacerbations of seborrheic dermatitis. The established frequent vitamin D insufficiency in patients with seborrheic dermatitis and the correlation of the level of 25-ydroxy vitamin D and disease severity gave reason for examination of the therapeutic efficacy of vitamin D. According to the present study local applications of cholecalciferol solution in dose 1200 IU daily led to statistically significant improvement of clinical findings of facial seborrheic dermatitis in 92,7 % of investigated patients. Limitation of the study is, that it is not blinded and not placebo-controlled. Nevertheless the results give grounds for further studies of therapeutic efficacy of local cholecalciferol as save alternative of the other present local applications used in treatment of seborrheic dermatitis like corticosteroids, calcineurin-inhibitors, tars, etc.en_US
