The study aimed to assess the effect of Multiwave Locked System (MLS) laser radiation in patients with diabetic sensorimotor neuropathy. Sixty-nine patients of both sexes over 18 years of age with diabetic neuropathy of the lower extremities were randomly divided into two groups - an experimental (applied therapy with MLS-laser radiation) and a control, placebo group (Sham-laser radiation). To objectify the results, the following were used: a short form of the McGill pain questionnaire, a study of vibration sensation with a 128Hz tuning fork, of touch sensation with a 10g monofilament and temperature sensitivity with a temperature discriminator, as well as electroneurographic data of peripheral sensory and motor nerves of the lower extremities. Patients were evaluated three times: before the start of treatment, after completion of the therapeutic course and on the 90th day from the start of therapy. After the treatment, as well as on the 90th day from the beginning of the therapy, the experimental group reported a reduction in pain, an improvement in superficial and deep sensation, and the electroneurographic data of n. suralis, n. tibialis and n. peroneus, with a more pronounced effect on the sensory n. suralis. No similar positive results were reported in the control group. Given the non-invasive nature of the intervention and the high safety rate (no adverse local or general reactions were reported), deep tissue laser therapy should be considered a safe, non-pharmacological adjunct to standard therapy in patients with painful diabetic peripheral neuropathy.en_US
