The cortex neurons connected to each other in strictly defined and diverse systems represent morphological substrate of human perception, motor activity, cognition and consciousness. Cerebral cortex is formed predominantly during prenatal period in humans. Its cells originate from stem and progenitor cells located in palium of the developing telencephalon. Differentiation of these cells is determined by many endogenous and exogenous molecular signals. Congenital abnormalities in the formation of the cerebral cortex determine a number of neurological diseases. Many studies have focused on the investigation of the role of different genes and their encoded molecules as regulators of this process. The main objective of this work was to investigate areas of human fetal brain and to examine the expression of certain molecular signals in them. For the first time the expression of the transcription factor Zbtb20 in human fetal dorsal palium was described. The phenotype of Zbtb20 positive cells was studied and analyzed. An apicobasal and a rostrocaudal gradient in the density of radial progenitors was proven.en_US
